Our Projects

Access, Justice and Equality May Make Good Policy . . .
Our projects involve partnering community stakeholders with our pro bono volunteers to develop innovative solutions promoting economic justice, access to the courts and legal services, affordable healthcare, education and housing.

     . . . But They’re Even Better in Practice

We don’t just propose solutions; we act on them. With our pro bono and community partners, we develop and implement practical advocacy strategies and put our network to work.

The Economic Opportunity Project

Our Economic Opportunity Project increases access to quality financial services and develops model partnerships promoting economic justice. With a consortium of local Haitian immigrant hometown associations, we translated and updated Appleseed’s pioneering financial literacy materials, presented community workshops and are working with pro bono counsel Clifford Chance LLP to develop a model community investment fund to promote small and medium entrepreneurship.

Healthcare Access Project

With pro bono partners Arent Fox, Dewey & LeBoeuf and Huron Consulting Group, we are expanding access to healthcare for immigrants and low-income workers through public-private partnerships and local advocacy.

Access to Education Project

Education has been called the great equalizer that can ensure access to the American Dream for everyone.  A high quality public school education, however, is not guaranteed. Too often, low-income students, immigrant children and students of color in New York City encounter structural barriers—including highly segregated, high-poverty schools--that prevent them from getting a good education. NY Appleseed is working through a number of projects to ensure that a quality public education is equally available to all in New York City, irrespective of income, race or ethnicity. New York Appleseed is a member of the National Coalition on School Diversity.
