Overview of the New York Office
In January 2007, Appleseed opened its New York Office as a result of a partnership between Jones Day and Appleseed, through which a former Jones Day lawyer began to serve as the office director. The New York Office is an extension of Appleseed’s national office, and it advances Appleseed’s pro bono efforts in New York through the development of local programs and participation in national collaborative projects.
New York City Project:
The roots of Appleseed’s New York Office began to grow in 2002 when Appleseed launched its New York City Project, which resulted in a partnership with New York City’s Department of Education. Appleseed will continue working with the 1.1 million children who attend the City’s public schools in mind and alongside New Yorkers to generate systemic change in public education. The New York City Project’s accomplishments include:
- Enlisting the support of more than 30 highly experienced volunteers from various industries including management consulting, marketing and advertising, market research, technology, web design and production, accounting, law, real estate, executive recruiting, management training, and more
- Appleseed volunteers partnered with the New York City Department of Education and provided more than $7 million in donated work product.
- Assisting in the design and implementation of a new teacher recruiting and retention program, including an ad campaign
